Billions of Pounds Booster for Bengal
Jon Price of the Centre for Low Carbon Futures joined a series of discussions in Kolkata with Greg Barker, UK Minister for India and Scott Furssedonn-Wood, the British Deputy High Commissioner with the Mayor of Kolkata, Municipal Commissioner and Dr Amrit Mitra, West Bengal Minister for Finance, Commerce and Industries. The Centre for Low Carbon Futures is supporting projects in India on low carbon cities, energy storage and high calorie food supply chains.

UK University wins £6m for energy storage research facility
The University of Birmingham has been granted a £6 million fund to create a new facility to support research into energy storage technologies.
Cryogenic energy storage systems – which uses liquid nitrogen to store and release energy – use off-peak electricity to liquefy air. The cryogenic liquids that is formed is stored in a vessel and vapourised into gas during an expansion process which drives a turbine.

Climate change is significantly increasing the risk of severe drought and food shortages in Asia.
Research highlighted in the 'Food Security: Near future projection of the impact of drought in Asia' report shows that within the next 10 years large parts of Asia probably have to face increased risk of more severe droughts, which will impact regional and possibly even global food security.
