The Lima-Callao area has a population of 9 million andan economy worth US$66 billion in 2014. The preliminary results of our research indicate that the total energy bill for the city was US$4.7 billion and that the bill for waste and water was US$50 billion - meaning that 8% of everything earned in the local economy was spent on energy, water and waste.
Event: University of Leeds at COP20, Lima
10th December 2014, 11:30am to 1:00pm
Research Fellows Sarah Colenbrander and Faye McAnulla from the University of Leeds will speaking at the THE ECONOMIC CASE FOR CLIMATE ACTION: SUB-NATIONAL LEADERSHIP side event at the COP 20 in Lima.
Sub-national governments around the world are moving forward to develop a new generation of policies to deploy clean energy technologies, increase energy efficiency, unlock private investment, and build greater climate resilience. Collectively, these governments are demonstrating that there are economically viable initiatives that lead to emissions reductions now. Hear from the cities and states who are demonstrating in practice a clear economic case for climate action, and join a discussion on how to address ongoing challenges of financing and institutional capacity building. The side event is jointly organized by The Climate Group, nrg4SD and the University of Leeds.
